Above Ceiling Inspections

When it comes to a building’s fire protection system, you probably hear a lot about your sprinkler systems, fire and smoke dampers, fire doors, fire-rated walls…etc.  But what about what’s going on above your facility’s ceiling? Fire safety above ceilings is one of the most common inspections that is required by your Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ). But for your facility to be fire safe above the ceiling, you must first be aware of what issues may be lurking up there. Due to work from renovations being performed, it is often left in less-than-perfect condition. So, what are inspectors looking for during the above ceiling inspections?

Missing Junction Box Covers

The first line of defense against the spread of fire above the ceiling is the junction box cover. Where wires are joined together heat is created, and if too much heat is built up it can cause sparks or a fire. And if there is no junction box cover then a fire can quickly spread.

Faulty Wiring

Faulty wiring is one of the top reasons for a fire to start. Any wires that are wrapped around sprinkler lines and hangers can be a potential fire hazard. Removing those wires and using zip-ties to connect above the ceiling will help prevent the risk of a fire starting.

Unsealed Penetrations

Gaps and holes from penetrations allow easy access for fire and smoke to spread quickly throughout the building. This will put your building and everyone inside at risk during a fire emergency. Firestopping above the ceiling will help prevent fire and smoke from spreading throughout the building.

With Insite’s above-ceiling services, we can help you with all these issues and get you back in compliance. We have a fully trained and certified team that will come in, inspect, and do the work for you, which will allow you and your team to concentrate on keeping your facility up and running.

Fire Sprinkler Cleaning

Dirty fire sprinklers can impair performance and violate code.

The NFPA 25 5.2.1.1.1 annex says that “it is permitted to clean sprinklers with compressed air or by a vacuum provided that the equipment does not touch the sprinkler”.

Don’t let dirty sprinklers cause you a compliance headache! Use Insite’s to safely and quickly clean “loaded” fire sprinklers in your facility. Sprinklers covered in dust and bacteria are a fire and health hazard!

Over time, fire sprinklers collect dust, dirt, and cobwebs. This process, called “loading”, can be unsightly and, left unchecked, can stop sprinklers from activating on time.

Our fire sprinkler vacuum system is among the safest cleaning solutions on the market. Canned air solutions can leave behind substances that encourage dust buildup and may cool sprinklers so rapidly that their bulbs burst. But our system creates air currents that remove gunk and filth with no rapid changes in temperature and no sticky sprays.

Use our fire sprinkler cleaning services to clean:

  • Pendant and sidewall sprinkler head

  • Sprinkler-protected head guards

  • Smoke alarms

  • Heat sensors

  • CO detectors

All this without touching them!
